TravClan raises $5 million from Flipkart to help India's travel agents sell trips abroad

The B2B travel startup serves over 15,000 agents, and 40% of its business now comes from smaller cities. Here is what it does and where the money goes.

Picture your neighbourhood travel agent. A family walks in and asks for a five-day trip to Bali. Then they change the dates. Then they want a cheaper hotel. Then a beach tour. Each change can mean hours of calls and checking prices on many screens. An Indian startup called TravClan wants to shrink those hours into minutes, and it has just got fresh money to do it.

On 22 October 2026, TravClan announced that it had raised $5 million from the shopping giant Flipkart and an investor called August One. It also took debt financing from Trifecta Capital. Here is what the company does, and why this small round tells a big story about how India travels.

First, what is TravClan?

TravClan is a B2B travel technology company. B2B means "business to business". It does not sell holidays to you directly. It sells tools to travel agents, who then sell trips to you. Think of a wholesale market that supplies the corner kirana shop. You never visit the wholesale market, but the biscuits in your local shop came from there.

On TravClan's platform, agents can find flights, hotels and activities, set prices, build day-by-day trip plans, take payments and talk to customers. The company says its platform covers pricing, trip plans, bookings, payments and on-ground support, all in one place. It has been around since 2018.

How big is it already?

The numbers are bigger than you might guess for a company most people have never heard of. According to data the company shared, more than 15,000 travel agents across India use TravClan. Through them, it handles more than $100 million in travel sales every year. It also runs trip services in more than 18 markets around the world.

With this round, TravClan has raised more than $11 million in total from investors. Earlier backers include Leo Capital, The Ventures, Hashed, August One, Flipkart and a group of angel investors. Angel investors are people who put their own money into young companies, a bit like a rich uncle who funds your cousin's first cafe.

Two kinds of money in one round

This round mixes two kinds of money, and the difference matters.

Flipkart and August One gave equity money. They put in cash and, in return, own a small slice of the company. If TravClan grows, their slice becomes worth more.

Trifecta Capital gave debt. That is a loan. Think of borrowing pocket money from a friend: you must pay it back, often with a little extra, but your friend does not get a share of your lemonade stall. Startups like debt because they do not have to give away more of their company.

The reports did not split the $5 million between Flipkart and August One, so this post does not either.

Why is Flipkart interested in travel?

Flipkart is best known for selling phones and clothes online, but it also runs travel services. It bought the online travel firm Cleartrip in 2021, and it took a small stake in TravClan to grow its international holiday packages on Cleartrip and Flipkart Travel. A small stake, or minority stake, means owning less than half of a company.

Where will the money go?

TravClan says it will use the cash in three main ways: to grow its global network of hotels and activity partners, to build more technology and AI tools, and to make its teams in foreign holiday spots stronger.

That last part is unusual. TravClan signs deals directly with hotels and activity partners and runs its own ground teams across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and India. So it has its own people in many holiday spots, not only software on a screen.

Investors call this "owning supply". Think of a sweet shop that makes its own laddoos instead of buying them from another shop. It knows the price, the quality and how many are left. Sahil Kukreja of Trifecta Capital said TravClan has built its model by "owning supply rather than buying demand". Rajul Garg of Leo Capital put it more simply: in travel, "whoever owns the supply owns the economics."

Small cities, big trips

Here is the part that tells a story about India. About 40% of TravClan's business now comes from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. These are the smaller cities after the big metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. That leaves roughly 60% from everywhere else.

The company says this reflects growing demand for international travel beyond the metros. Many people in these cities are first-time travellers looking for affordable trips abroad. TravClan's plan is to give the agents who serve them better tools.

Smaller cities already bring in about two of every five parts of TravClan's business.

Co-founder and CEO Arun Bagaria said TravClan is building the infrastructure needed to make international travel affordable and reliable for the next 100 million Indian travellers.

Where does AI come in?

Remember the family that kept changing its Bali plan? This is where AI, or artificial intelligence, comes in. It is software that can do some thinking-style tasks on its own.

TravClan says its AI tools let agents plan, price and rebuild complex international trips in minutes instead of hours, even when a customer changes dates, hotels or other parts of the trip.

Before and after panels: the old way takes hours with many apps and calls, while TravClan's AI tools take minutes on one platform
The promise: changes that once took hours now take minutes.

Bagaria said, "The next generation of travel software will not just help sellers search faster. It will increasingly execute work for them."

He has talked about how travel companies can work together in this podcast episode.

Why should you care?

First, this is a good example of a startup most people never see. Not every big business is an app on your phone. Some of the most useful ones work quietly behind other businesses, like the wholesale market behind your kirana shop.

Second, it shows where travel is heading. Smaller cities are now a big part of the story, and more first-time travellers mean more work for agents, hotels and tour teams.

Third, it shows how startups raise money in different ways. Equity, debt and big partners like Flipkart are all tools. Knowing the difference helps you read any funding headline with clear eyes.

The next time a relative books a trip abroad through a neighbourhood agent, remember that some of that work may now run on a platform like TravClan.
