Swiggy now lets you order from 5 restaurants and pay just once
Biryani from one place, pizza from another: Swiggy's new feature puts up to five restaurants in a single checkout, live in 720 cities.
Picture a Sunday night at home. One cousin wants biryani. Another wants pizza. Your little sister will only eat momos. Until now, that usually meant three carts, three payments and three OTPs. On 15 October 2026, Swiggy launched a feature that lets you order from up to five restaurants in one go, with a single payment.
It is called Multi Restaurant Ordering, and it is already live in 720 cities, according to the same Business Standard report. Here is how it works, and why a food app would bother building it.
So what exactly changed?
For years, a food app cart held food from only one restaurant at a time. Inc42 described exactly this about Zomato before it changed its own app. So a group that wanted food from different places had to place order after order.
Now Swiggy lets you build and hold several carts, compare them side by side, and then pay for all of them together. Curly Tales gives a simple example: starters from one restaurant, the main course from a second, and dessert from a third, all in one order.
Swiggy described it in its own words as "a food court experience in the comfort of your homes", in the statement quoted by Business Standard.

Does it all come in one bag?
No, and this part matters. The payment is joined, but the food is not. Each restaurant's order is prepared and delivered independently. On your phone, each one shows up as its own tab on one shared tracking screen.
Think of it like a school canteen with five counters. You pay once at the cash desk, but you still collect your samosa, your juice and your sandwich from different counters. Here, the counters come to you, one by one.
What is a checkout, and why does fewer of them matter?
A checkout is the last step of buying online: you check the bill, pick how to pay, type the OTP and confirm. Each step takes a few seconds, and each one is a chance for you to give up.
A platform fee is a small charge a food app adds to every order, on top of the food price. If you place five separate orders, you can end up paying it again and again. Swiggy says the new feature removes the need for separate carts and checkouts, with multiple platform fees.

Why would Swiggy build this?
Swiggy shared some numbers from its own customer research. It found that 55% of users build two carts in a single session, and one in five users place a second order within 30 minutes of the first.
Swiggy said this "may lead to abandoned carts or customers placing multiple orders at different times." An abandoned cart is when someone fills a cart and then leaves without paying. Imagine a customer at a lemonade stall who pours a glass, gets confused about change, and walks away. The stall owner made the lemonade but earned nothing. Online shops hate abandoned carts for the same reason.
So the plain logic, in Swiggy's own framing, is simple: if two cravings no longer need two separate trips through the payment screen, fewer people should drop off halfway.
Sidharth Bhakoo, chief business officer of Swiggy Food Marketplace, called it a fix for "the ultimate dining dilemma", and gave examples like pairing pizza with biryani, or sushi with local street food, as reported by Business Standard.
Wait, did Zomato not do this already?
Zomato has had a version of this idea for a while. When Zomato added it, Inc42 reported that users could build carts from up to four restaurants at the same time. But the flow was different: you checked out one cart, then came back to finish the next one. Inc42 also noted that, at that time, Swiggy did not offer anything like it.
Swiggy's version goes up to five restaurants and puts everything through one payment. Here is a quick look at the numbers.

This short news explainer from Zee Business covers how Zomato's multi-restaurant feature worked when it arrived:
Why launch it now?
Timing is part of the plan. Swiggy launched the feature ahead of the festive season. Curly Tales points out that it could be handy for Diwali parties, family get-togethers and long weekends, when everyone wants something different.
It is a bit like a sweet shop opening an extra counter just before Diwali: the change is built for the days when big group orders are most likely.
The things to watch
- Delivery timing: Since each restaurant's food travels separately, the biryani and the pizza may not arrive together. The reports describe separate deliveries, not one combined drop.
- Fees: Swiggy says you avoid multiple platform fees. The reports do not spell out how delivery charges work across five restaurants, so check the bill screen before you pay.
- Rivals: Zomato already had multi-carts. Now both big food apps offer a way to order from several places at once.
The short version
Swiggy now lets you mix food from up to five restaurants and pay once. Each restaurant still cooks and sends its own part, tracked on one screen. It is live in 720 cities, launched on 15 October 2026, right before the festive rush. For anyone who has ever argued over where to order from, the argument just got a lot shorter.
