Microtek puts Rs 400 crore into solar and builds a panel plant in Jaipur
The inverter brand also launches a battery storage system and aims to more than double its revenue to Rs 5,000 crore in FY27.
Picture a summer night. The power goes off, but the fan keeps spinning. In many Indian homes, the box that makes this happen is an inverter, and Microtek is one of the best known names on that box. Now this inverter brand wants to help homes make their own power too, not just save it.
On Sunday, 25 October 2026, Microtek said it has invested over Rs 400 crore to grow its solar business. Part of that money is going into a new solar panel factory in Jaipur, which the company expects to start working by November 2026. It also said it will bring out a new Battery Energy Storage System, or BESS, for homes and businesses.
Where did this news come from?
Microtek shared the plan at a big clean energy fair. The Renewable Energy India Expo 2026 ran from 22 to 24 October at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida. The company then put out a statement on Sunday, which news agency Press Trust of India carried and Business Standard published.
At its stall, Microtek showed home inverters, UPS systems, batteries, electrical wires, solar panels, solar inverters and lithium batteries. Think of it as a shop that sells everything your house needs to keep the lights on.

First, what does an inverter do?
An inverter is like a backup player in a cricket team. When the main player (the power line) walks off, the backup steps in right away. When electricity is there, the inverter quietly charges a big battery. When the power goes off, it takes the energy stored in that battery and turns it back into the kind of electricity your fan and lights can use.
A UPS does the same job, but faster. It is the reason a desktop computer does not switch off in the half second after a power cut.
And how does a solar panel work?
A solar panel is a flat sheet of special cells. When sunlight hits these cells, they push out a small flow of electricity. Many cells together, on many panels, can run a home in the daytime. The panel does not need fuel. It only needs sun, and India has plenty of that.
The catch is simple: the sun sets every evening. That is where batteries come in.

What is a Battery Energy Storage System?
A BESS is like a giant power bank for a building. You charge your phone's power bank when there is a plug nearby and use it later on a long train ride. A BESS does the same for a house, shop or factory. It stores power from solar panels or the grid and gives it back when it is needed.
Microtek's new range includes a system called the i-BESS 125 kW/261 kWh and a high-voltage lithium battery pack. The trade magazine Energetica India says this marks the company's entry into high-voltage energy storage. One kWh is the same "unit" you see on your electricity bill, so this bigger system can store 261 units in one go.
Energetica India also says these systems are made for uses like "peak shaving". That means using stored power during the busiest, most costly hours of the day, the way you might carry a tiffin instead of buying lunch when canteen prices are highest.
What does "Har Ghar Bijli Ghar" mean?
Microtek calls its plan "Har Ghar Bijli Ghar", which roughly means "every home a power house". The idea is that a home should not only use electricity but also make and store some of it.
Founder and Chairman N K Aggarwal said, "Our vision of 'Har Ghar Bijli Ghar' reflects our ambition to help households generate and manage their own electricity." He added that the company's BESS and lithium products would help it serve India's changing energy needs.
The company says it works across four areas: making power, carrying it through wires, keeping it steady, and storing it. It also says it has nearly four decades of experience in power backup.
Why does this fit a big government plan?
The news reports link Microtek's plan to PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, a government scheme that aims to bring rooftop solar power to one crore households. If lots of homes put panels on their roofs, someone has to make those panels, the inverters that go with them, and the batteries that store the extra power. Microtek wants to sell all three.
Why make solar panels at home in India?
India still buys a lot of its solar making machines from China. The newspaper BusinessLine has reported that China proposed export controls on 12 solar manufacturing technologies, and Indian makers said their plans to build more of the supply chain at home could slow down. A new panel factory in Jaipur adds to the panels made inside the country.
How big does Microtek want to get?
Microtek also shared its sales targets. It expects to more than double its revenue in FY27 to Rs 5,000 crore, and it wants to reach Rs 10,000 crore within two years.
Revenue is all the money that comes in from sales before any costs are paid. If a samosa stall sells 100 samosas at Rs 20 each, its revenue is Rs 2,000, even before it pays for oil, potatoes and rent. FY27 is the financial year that runs from April 2026 to March 2027.

Microtek also says it sells through over 1 lakh dealers across India. A dealer is the local shop that stocks and sells the product, like the electrical store in your market that also sends someone to fit the inverter.
What should a student take away from this?
For years, an inverter in India meant one thing: a heavy battery under the stairs that saved you from power cuts. Microtek's plan shows how that same business is changing. The new idea is to catch sunlight on the roof, store it in a smarter battery, and use it when the grid is off or costly.
The next dates to watch are simple. The Jaipur panel plant is due to start by November 2026, and the FY27 target of Rs 5,000 crore will be tested when the financial year ends in March 2027.
